JOB SUMMARY

The MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning) Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the effective implementation and continuous improvement of MedGlobal’s health programs. Working under the supervision of the MEAL Coordinator, the MEAL Assistant is responsible for collecting, verifying, entering, and analyzing data from the field to track program progress against targets and ensure data integrity. The role contributes to strengthening accountability to affected populations by supporting feedback mechanisms, assisting in beneficiary engagement, and promoting learning through documentation of good practices and lessons learned. This position is essential to ensure that program decisions are data-driven, adaptive, and aligned with both organizational standards and donor requirements.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Monitoring and Data Collection 

  • Support field teams in collecting quantitative and qualitative data using standardized tools (e.g., surveys, checklists, focus group guides). 

  • Conduct regular field visits to program sites to gather, verify, and validate data. 

  • Ensure timely and accurate entry of collected data into relevant databases and monitoring platforms. 

  • Assist in ensuring data collection processes follow established protocols and are conducted ethically and respectfully. 

Evaluation and Learning 

  • Assist in compiling and analyzing monitoring data for periodic reporting (monthly, quarterly, and final reports). 

  • Support documentation of key findings, lessons learned, and best practices to inform program improvement. 

  • Participate in assessments, reviews, and learning sessions as requested. 

Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) 

  • Support the implementation and maintenance of community feedback and complaint mechanisms. 

  • Assist in raising awareness among beneficiaries about their rights and available feedback channels. 

  • Ensure confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive information and complaints. 

  • Support the MEAL team in conducting satisfaction surveys, focus group discussions, and other participatory tools to strengthen accountability. 

Data Management and Quality Assurance 

  • Maintain organized, up-to-date files of MEAL tools, data, and documentation. 

  • Review data for completeness, accuracy, and consistency. 

  • Report any discrepancies, gaps, or issues in data to the MEAL Coordinator in a timely manner. 

Coordination and Reporting 

  • Assist in preparing MEAL-related reports, presentations, and internal briefs. 

  • Coordinate with program staff to ensure consistency between field activities and MEAL tracking efforts. 

  • Represent the MEAL unit in internal or external meetings as delegated. 

  • Perform other MEAL-related tasks assigned by the MEAL Coordinator, Programs Coordinator, or Programs Manager. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS 

  • A university degree or diploma in Public Health, Social Sciences, Statistics, Development Studies, or a related field. 

  • Minimum of 1–2 years of relevant experience in MEAL, data collection, or related functions, preferably within a humanitarian or NGO context. 

  • Basic understanding of MEAL concepts, tools, and practices, including monitoring frameworks and accountability standards. 

  • Familiarity with digital data collection platforms such as KoboToolbox, ODK, or similar. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and professional email communication. 

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. 

  • Previous experience working with international NGOs, UN agencies, local partners, or authorities, especially in displacement or emergency settings. 

  • Hands-on experience in both quantitative and qualitative data collection and basic analysis techniques. 

  • Demonstrated motivation, adaptability, problem-solving ability, and a proactive approach to fieldwork. 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 

  • Ability and willingness to work in challenging field conditions with flexibility and professionalism. 

  • Commitment to the values, ethics, and humanitarian mission of MedGlobal. 

  • Fluency in both Arabic and English (spoken and written) is required.
